Proverbs 2New International Version (NIV)

Moral Benefits of Wisdom

2

My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
( Matthew 22

The Greatest Commandment

34Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:36“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul (Thoughts) and with all your mind.’c (Hear & See) 38This is the first and greatest commandment.39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’d 40All the Law (Pentateuch) and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”)

2

turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
(Listening to people with wisdom from God and not your own doubts)

3

indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
(This is literal)
(Provers 18
New International Version
20From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled;
with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied.

21The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit. )

4

and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
(You live a life trying to “get money” use that fervor to get wisdom)

5

then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
(This is Literal)

6

For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
(This is Literal)

7

He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
(This is Literal)

8

for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
(This is a statement concerning the righteous and faithful. God loves those that struggle, but he protects those that have conquered sin)

9

Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
(This is Literal)

10

For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
(You will become wiser and enjoy learning)

11

Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.
(Keeping your business to yourself will protect you and understanding that not everyone that smiles at your is in your corner will guard you.)

12

Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
(You’ll know what to say and what not to say – discretion – to those who are wicked and lewd. Don’t be in adult conversations. When grown folks talk you leave – you are not an adult – you are a child of God and your adult Father does not approve of potty talk. )

13

who have left the straight paths
to walk in dark ways,
(same wicked people from vs 12)

14

who delight in doing wrong
and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,
(same wicked people from vs 12)

15

whose paths are crooked
and who are devious in their ways.
(same wicked people from vs 12)

16

Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words,
(There has been many a politician who lost a career, many a politician who lost an election, and many a family man who lost the family he loves behind a hussy. )

17

who has left the partner of her youth
and ignored the covenant she made before God.[a]
(Hussy character traits)

18

Surely her house leads down to death
and her paths to the spirits of the dead.
(She is hell bound)

19

None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.
(Lie down with a hussy and you wake up in hell – life and after life)

20

Thus you will walk in the ways of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
(It’s a trap! Don’t fall for it!)

21

For the upright will live in the land,
and the blameless will remain in it;
(Righteousness will get you there, Character will keep you there)

22

but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
and the unfaithful will be torn from it.
(those that seek to do evil and those who aren’t consistent in seeking God.)
